'allo, 'allo, friends!!
I almost didn't send an email today.
Sometimes I chafe at the constraints of publishing regularly and consistently (constraints that I placed on myself, let's be clear). I have a hard time publishing if I think it's not interesting, insightful, or crafted enough, which says more about the inside of my head than anything else.
That said, I decided to continue some thoughts from the last issue on role models, but shorter thoughts. Micro-thoughts. With pictures!

Whenever I dive into a sea of new information, my first impulse is always to figure out how to visually make sense of it. What are the key concepts or terms? What relationship do these pieces have to each other?
And I loooove diagrams. Diagrams are part of my thinking process. Diagrams are my friends.
So, here’s my first effort at diagramming the types of public figures who capture and keep our attention.
If you'll recall from the last issue:
Role models are people who capture and keep your attention, because they help you explain something about your life: how it could be better or different, or how you can make sense of your life so far.
For someone to be an effective role model, you need to have time with that person (observation and interaction), and you need to see congruency in that person (alignment between statements and actions, beliefs and behaviors).
So this diagram attempts to figure out how time and congruency intersect. The two axes are:
🕰️ TIME: the length of time we have to observe and interact with a person, and
⚖️ CONGRUITY: the degree of alignment between statements and actions that that person displays.
Does this make sense? Does it open up new information? Are there better terms or locations for these items?
I’d love to hear what insights or questions this "influence matrix" sparks for you.
Shalom,
